Jon and Anna Gardner openend the collective in the spring of 2012 as a retail store specializing in all forms of art, as well as hard-to-find world decor items. Just as important is our vinyl collection of music from around the world and a special showcase of local musicians and visual artists from our surrounding area. Our hope is that you will enjoy our selection as much as we do and, together, we can work to showcase some of the amazing talent that is present in our own local community.
There are two main themes that are especially dear to our hearts. Hoepfully, you will take the time to read on and understand our goals a little better.
Bringing the outside world to Fredericksburg, and bringing Fredericksburg to the rest of the world:
At the collective, we are focused on bringing the music and visual arts from around the world into our local community of Fredericksburg, in order to enhance cultural awareness and artistic appreciation, whatever the influence may be. To that end, we import directly from cultural super centers such as Bali, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Mediterranean.
With the new addition of this website, we also hope to share the already culturally-rich Fredericksburg community with new customers and appreciators of art around the globe! We carry albums of work from most local Fredericksburg-based musicians, as well as support the work of the world-class painters and tattooers from our community.
Community-focused stewardship:
We realize that we are here because of our local community, NOT in spite of it! We wish to cultivate a spirit of sharing, and mutual support with other local business. At the same time, we feel passionately about giving back to our local community, and ALWAYS share a portion of our proceeds with local non-profit groups throughout Fredericksburg, Stafford and Spotsylvania counties.
We want to secure a bright future for our own children and for many generations to come. We recognize that in order to do that, we must invest as much into the lives of children all around us, as we do in our own.
